How Do You Define Anxiety?

What is Generalized Anxiety Disorder?.

If you are prone to worry about every day events, you could be suffering from a condition called Generalized Anxiety Disorder or GAD as it is more commonly known. People suffering from this kind of disorder always feel that something disastrous is going to happen, and they cannot stop themselves from worrying about money, health, work, family, college or friends. This worry is unrealistic, making the life a constant state of fear, dread and worry. What Are The Symptoms of GAD?
Anxiety can affect the logical thought process of a person leading to a variety of sysmptoms which can manifest themselves physically from any or all of the following: irritability, nausea, headaches, sweating, restlessness, tiredness, frequent urination, insominia and being easily alarmed.
What causes anxiety is not yet fully understood but it is believed there are various factors involved that contribute to its development, including genetics, brain chemistry and stress in the sufferers’ environment. If you have a family history of anxiety or depression you may be more likely to suffer from it and GAD has been linked to abnormal levels of neurotransmitters in the brain. These are the chemical messengers passing the information between nerve cells, and when they get out of balance, the brain does not receive messages properly. This alters the brain’s reaction to certain situations, causing anxiety.

What Treaments are Available?
Anxiety is treated by psychologist, psychiatrist, or a mental health professionals. They are specially trained to recognize and diagnose these kind of illnesses. The treatments for anxiety may include cognitive-behavioral therapy and the use of drugs. If GAD has started to interfere with everyday functioning, medications can be very useful. These may include tranquillizers to relax and calm the patient.
By recognizing the features that cause anxious behavior, cognitive-behaviour therapy can bring about a change in thought patterns and allow sufferes to deal with them. The therapy helps by having a realistic approach towards worries, and limiting the distorted thinking.
GAD cannot be prevented, but there are some things that can be done to lessen or control the symptoms. This would include cutting back on the consumption of coffee, tea, cocoa and cola. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking any over the counter herbal remedies or medicines, as they may contain the chemicals that increase the anxiety symptoms. How Do We Develop Anxiety and Depression
A number of years ago one of the founders of Mentors in Motion, a Mr. Val Smith put together a view point on the law of attraction. This concept was termed the Captain and the Crew analysis. If we review this theory, we see that it also fits very well into why we develop levels of stress, anxiety and depression. The process is very simple and easy to understand and is laid out in the following article to show, how do we develop anxiety and depression.
Val detailed the human mind as a large circle on a small body. The large circle being segmented in half by a horizontal line. The top half being called the Captain and the bottom piece the Crew.

On the top of the head you would insert two antennas, one with a positive (+) sign, the other a negative (-) sign, and between the antenna, an energy or frequency line. As you well understand, everything in the world around us is driven by electrical impulses or other forms of energy, our thoughts, our speech, everything in our life experience is delivered and processed through either the positive or negative field (in this case our antenna).
External information received by the captain will be either positive or negative and is now altered to reflect the captain’s personal view on the issue. The crews now receive the information from the captain but now with the captain’s slant on the events. Having no other source of reference the crew must accept the news on face value from there captain, as they don’t have the right to challenge what was provided.

If the captains as a general negative outlook on life , it is always going to be reflected in his attitude and responses that he provides to the crew, who in turn will forward the negativity in their own actions.
With disorders like anxiety and depression, they have developed out of negative inputs from the captain (our primary brain function) that have been fed to the crew (our sub conscious), with the level of negativity producing fear, tension, high blood pressure culminating in anxiety and depression.
Using the captain & crew theory again here are a couple of examples.
If I tell you (The Captain) that you are ugly, then you can take that experience as a positive and choose to ignore my worthless opinion, thus protecting the crew or you can experience it as a negative, telling the crew that they are ugly and worthless. The crew must manifest what the captain tells them is all situation. If the captain responded in a negative way, telling the crew that they are ugly, then the crew will have no choice but manifest the feelings of ugliness, worthlessness and low self esteem.
The example in reverse is you as the captain are thanked for your efforts, told how fantastic you have done. As the captain you feel positive and pass on to the crew this positive point and the other positive you were told. They the crew then manifest feeling of self-worth and of wellbeing.

Using Val’s theory, we can now start to see that it is our acceptance of our negative position, repeatedly passed to our subconscious by our captain the brain, which is responsible for our stress, anxiety and depression. We allow there development from continued negative feedback from our life style and the interactions with people we have, from childhood through to being an adult.
They, our mental and perceived fears, build on themselves and will only be stopped ,when the captain provides continual positive input. It is therefore easy to allow our guard to come down and negativity to become a silent invader producing these common disorders.
