Using Anti Anxiety Medication
An intense panic attack is usually followed by the administration of anti-anxiety medication to prevent other similar episodes. However, tranquilizers represent just a temporary relief method that can only be used in perfect safety for a very short period of time, due to the high risk of side effects. Here are some of the paradoxical and troublesome adverse reactions triggered by anxiety drugs in general. While the main benefit from their use is the state of calm and relaxation, sometimes drugs can relax you to the extent that you feel drowsy all the time.
Since anti anxiety drugs blocks the secretion or the release of certain chemicals at the level of the central nervous system, this may often result in a poor coordination, lack of energy and slow reflexes. Some people have even reported dizziness, confusion, disorientation and impaired thinking, not to mention the impossibility to operate machines and drive. The extensive use of anti-anxiety medication is also associated with the appearance of depression in very severe forms that push one on the verge of suicide. The problem is that such drugs not only arrest anxiety attacks but also make it impossible for one to feel pleasure or even pain, which can often go hand in hand with depression.
There are also some unexplained paradoxes in some people’s reactions after the administration of anti-anxiety medication. For instance, tranquilizers are supposed to induce calm and relaxation, but in certain cases drugs can increase the agitation and the irritability level. Plus, mania, hostility and even rage have been noticed in some cases. The severest forms of side effects include hallucinations and aggressive behaviors, which, although rare, remain very dangerous. The majority of paradoxical reactions to anti-anxiety medications has been reported with children or the elderly, as well as with people that suffer from some developmental disabilities.
Consequently, choosing the treatment well and complementing it with some other form of therapy represent essential stages for the patient’s full recovery, and thus should be considered as priorities for any treatment program or approach. Anti-anxiety medication only eliminates or alleviates symptoms without improving the health condition in any way. The problem or the trigger that generates the panic attacks is still there, somehow kept under control, and once you cease taking the medication, you’re likely to experience anxiety all over again. Therefore, all the treatment efforts should be directed towards proper diagnosis and identification of the causes behind the disorder.

How to Deal With Panic Episodes
Anyone who’s ever had one needs to know how to handle panic episodes. Here are a few tips to at least get you started on successfully moving beyond anxiety attacks.

To begin, remember that you should to make a trip to your physician if you haven’t already. There are physical problems that can mimic a panic event but aren’t. You need to be certain that’s not the case with you.
Once you’ve done that and you’ve had the work up and you know you’re not sick, you can now deal with the panic attacks.
Here’s How To Start
You probably already know about it but I’ll mention deep breathing again here because it is both basic and important. Stop the Automatic Thoughts
Panic can become a chain event because the mild beginnings of an anxiety episode trigger the expectation that a full-blown panic attack might be beginning. This in turn worsens the symptoms, which…
You see how that escaleates.
A way to halt this cycle is to act like an interested observer rather than a participant.
You’ve had a complete physical so you know mentally that you don’t have a physical problem.
You’ve also had anxiety episodes before and know that as horrible as they seem you survive them.
Use this knowledge to give yourself permission to watch what’s happening rather than getting caught up in it. You’ve had an anxiety episode in the past and you survived that so you know you’ll likely survive this.
Observe the episode almost like you’re someone else rather than the person in the middle of it. Feeling fear about the anxiety attack will only make it worse.
Some people are able to adapt this detached attitude by imagining they’re watching the event in a movie or a play instead of than getting completely caught up in the situation. This detached attitudehelps them maintain perspective and know that their fear isn’t caused by an actual physical threat.
Having survived anxiety events in the past without long-term consequences gives reason to question the validity of the current panic attack.
Psychologists often use these logical thoughts to guide people to defuse the fearful thoughts that accompany a panic attack.
A therapist is very helpful but many people do it on their own.

How Do We Develop Anxiety and Depression
A number of years ago one of the founders of Mentors in Motion, a Mr. Val Smith put together a view point on the law of attraction. This concept was termed the Captain and the Crew analysis. If we review this theory, we see that it also fits very well into why we develop levels of stress, anxiety and depression. The process is very simple and easy to understand and is laid out in the following article to show, how do we develop anxiety and depression.
Val detailed the human mind as a large circle on a small body. The large circle being segmented in half by a horizontal line. The top half being called the Captain and the bottom piece the Crew.

On the top of the head you would insert two antennas, one with a positive (+) sign, the other a negative (-) sign, and between the antenna, an energy or frequency line. As you well understand, everything in the world around us is driven by electrical impulses or other forms of energy, our thoughts, our speech, everything in our life experience is delivered and processed through either the positive or negative field (in this case our antenna).
External information received by the captain will be either positive or negative and is now altered to reflect the captain’s personal view on the issue. The crews now receive the information from the captain but now with the captain’s slant on the events. Having no other source of reference the crew must accept the news on face value from there captain, as they don’t have the right to challenge what was provided.

If the captains as a general negative outlook on life , it is always going to be reflected in his attitude and responses that he provides to the crew, who in turn will forward the negativity in their own actions.
With disorders like anxiety and depression, they have developed out of negative inputs from the captain (our primary brain function) that have been fed to the crew (our sub conscious), with the level of negativity producing fear, tension, high blood pressure culminating in anxiety and depression.
Using the captain & crew theory again here are a couple of examples.
If I tell you (The Captain) that you are ugly, then you can take that experience as a positive and choose to ignore my worthless opinion, thus protecting the crew or you can experience it as a negative, telling the crew that they are ugly and worthless. The crew must manifest what the captain tells them is all situation. If the captain responded in a negative way, telling the crew that they are ugly, then the crew will have no choice but manifest the feelings of ugliness, worthlessness and low self esteem.
The example in reverse is you as the captain are thanked for your efforts, told how fantastic you have done. As the captain you feel positive and pass on to the crew this positive point and the other positive you were told. They the crew then manifest feeling of self-worth and of wellbeing.

Using Val’s theory, we can now start to see that it is our acceptance of our negative position, repeatedly passed to our subconscious by our captain the brain, which is responsible for our stress, anxiety and depression. We allow there development from continued negative feedback from our life style and the interactions with people we have, from childhood through to being an adult.
They, our mental and perceived fears, build on themselves and will only be stopped ,when the captain provides continual positive input. It is therefore easy to allow our guard to come down and negativity to become a silent invader producing these common disorders.
Do You Want To Be Anxiety Free
A new day breaks and we are again faced with being Alone, Confused and Scared. We may have family and friends around but they cannot shed this feeling of being alone. We know its only our anxiety pushing to the surface once again making it hard to live and function like the rest of mankind. I had such a weird disorder that set me apart form the rest of the world, so much so that no one could ever understand what I was going through. There just didn’t seem to be any way I could see as to “how to be anxiety free”.
For a really great resource on how to be anxiety free take a look at how to control your anxiety attacks
I thought for a while I was on my own, only to discover millions suffer anxiety issues worldwide. The anxiety attacks would come from nowhere, or so I believed at the time. There is nowhere you can run and hide from your anxiety.
What causes this, enough is enough, was always in my thoughts. My mind always asking, what is happening to me?. Your concern grows about, will there be another attack in a public space, can I avade going out. You try to stay at home but even here, you’re not safe. How do you try to explain the shear terror of waking in your sleep in the middle of an attack?. How scary do you think that may have been to wake up to? Indescribable would be putting it mildly.
But from the worlds point of view, anxiety is one of those ‘sweep it under the carpet’, “embarrassment-type issues, or I think I might-be-going-crazy” feelings. It’s all a little bit embarrassing, so let’s sweep it under the carpet type issues. More importantly, they don’t want to admit they are a long time sufferers also.
What Can You Do To Battle Back?
It’s all changed now. I have acknowledged I have a condition called Anxiety Disorder. Battling with over each week, into the following month and on into a year. Gaining control may take years to achieve, but I know I can do it. It’s now in my hands to seek and implement the remedial action I need to take.
Accepting your disorder as a medical condition is the first step to recovery. It will have symptoms and it will have treatments available to cure it, but best of all, in most cases the anxiety disorder will not last forever. Anxiety attacks will not kill and the attacks will end perhaps leaving you a little frightened, anxious and confused, but you have survived.
Taking control of the anxiety attack is the key to gaining control of the disorder. To achieve a cure you must reassert control over your mind and through your mind control over your body. Stop what you are, close your eyes to cancel external triggers and keep the focus your mind on your symptoms.
We need to reduce the impact of the anxiety attack and the quickest way we can do this is to take control of our brain and stop the signals it is sending. Relax your mussels starting from the toes and working up the body. Feel the mussels relaxing and see them so in your mind. Flex and shake the parts of your body as you need to, to get them to relax.
The battle of the mind is the key to overcoming anxiety. Produce mental images in your brain, of you being in CONTROL of the situation. Produce mental pictures and bring in the other senses through self-talk. Practice this visualization so it becomes easy to project and you will see your control grow with every attack as each attack reduces in intensity and duration.
Seeking professional assistance in the early stages of your attempting to cure an anxiety disorder may be a good move. Medications can lessen the severity of symptoms allowing you to get on top of them quicker. You shouldn’t feel the least bit of embarrassment or guilt in needing their help.
