Choosing The Right Present
There are some people who simply cannot live without the latest technology. They know everything about that, always must have the newest gadget, and keep them dearly at home or office. This hobby could be a useful one, but it surely is expensive. I reckon I am one of these crazy people, but I have to concentrate on just a few areas, as I don’t have unlimited financial resources.
People willing to spend a lot of money on a gadget they don’t need might be called crazy, but their passion knows no bounds. Trying to tell them they don’t actually need the latest gadget they just bought is pointless. Unfortunately, there also comes a time when they’re celebrating their birthday. I know, that word sends shivers down your spine, doesn’t it?
Long before that scary day, you have to pay them lots of visits, observe carefully, and even take photographs, so that you could find out what the perfect birthday gift might be, and not buy them something they already acquired. If you choose the easy way, you may go to the store and buy whatever has the biggest number of features, or the highest price, or, you may simply ask for some recommendation.
I would definitely recommend the 160gb archos 605. It is everything your friend might wish, and even more. The quality of being able to connect to other devices your friend must have, such as a plasma TV, or wireless routers, comes as a bonus. The nice thing is you don’t have to explain your friend all its features, or how it works, as he surely knows everything about it, and it has been on his shopping list. You will surely make him a great, happy surprise with the portable media player.
Now that you know what to get him for his next birthday, you can take it easy, relax yourself and have a nice drink. You could have your name engraved on his little present, just to remind him how thoughtful you have been, when your birthday is coming up, but hey, that’s just a suggestion!
Library Visits
I love to read. I read anything I can find, from Science Fiction novels, to Agatha Christie mysteries. Due to this, the library was a place I’d visit often. I appreciated the quiet atmosphere and I could find pretty much any book i wanted. However, due to poor management, the library was closed, and I’ve not heard of plans to open another one.
Since nothing I could do would change this decision, I was left with nothing to do but to find another place in which to do my reading, that offered the same conditions as the library. I figured the park would be a good choice, and I decided to go check it out. I quickly found a good spot that was far away from the regular paths, so people would not come by, and offered the necessary peace and quiet. I thought it was too good to be true, but I decided to try it the next day.
Unfortunately, when I returned, the place was filled with kids running around and playing. There was no way I could read in these conditions. But I also didn’t want to start looking for another spot, because I liked this one a lot. So I started looking for something to help reduce the background noise to a minimum.
Because I am an avid music listener as well, I decided the best option would be the purchase of an mp3 player, to listen to some classical music while I’m reading. I opted for the sansa e280 mp3 player , and have not regretted my choice even once. The small player is perfect for my needs, and I can relax and read in peace, while using it.
I’ve grown so attached to it that I started leaving my books at home, when going to my “reading” place. I’ve gooten really used to just sitting there looking at the children and listening to music. I would have never thought it possible: me, without my books?

Are You Cut Out for Woodworking?
When you take up woodworking, you actually need to learn a number of different skills, like carving, joinery, turning, marquetry and cabinet making. Each and every skilled craftsperson at some time had to learn the basic principles of marking, measuring, dimensioning, assembling and finishing. These techniques are the basis of all woodworking projects, whether they’re your profession or your hobby. With some patience, the right tools and techniques, and a good plan, just about anyone can create a treasure that will be enjoyed for many years to come. Here’s a look at some of the skills and techniques that you’ll have to learn in order to call yourself a woodworker.
The capability to conceptualize three dimensionally is necessary to mark up the wood and to envisage how one piece fits with another and in what order. As well, you’ll have to learn which tools will bring about the best outcome, considering the degree of accuracy called for and the attributes of the wood you’re working with.
The process of cutting the wood to size is called dimensioning; it’s a straightforward procedure in theory, but it takes a lot of practice to get it right. You’ll need to know how to cut and assemble various kinds of joints for all but the most simple woodworking projects. Traditionally, joinery is considered to be the true test of a woodworker’s expertise, since it requires hand-eye coordination that never wavers. However, practice will help you discover the most effective means to secure one section of wood to another appealingly and inconspicuously without giving up durability.
An important addition to these basic skills is a knowledge of how wood actually performs. It’s a unique, living thing that expands and contracts in various weather conditions, particularly humidity, and this has to be taken into account by every woodworker when planning and constructing a project. There are woods that are easier to work with than others, and every piece of wood, no matter what type it is, has distinct twists and turns in its grain.
There are pros and cons for using either hand tools or machines for DIY woodworking. Some argue that hand tools enable you to get the hang of cutting and forming wood without disrupting the grain. Other experts in the field believe that you can complete a project faster by using hand tools, mostly because of the time involved in preparing to work with mechanical tools. Yet others think exactly the opposite.
There isn’t one correct method to do anything in woodworking. The best method is the one that suits you the most. It needs to balance all the variables such as how much time is required to finish the project, what woodworking tools you have available, how important it is that your project is of the highest quality, and how much enjoyment you get from the process.
Using Digital Images and Scrapbook Supplies to Make Nearly Effortless Easter Crafts
Easter will be here before you know it, so once again the time has arrived to begin making Easter crafts. Each year allows me to once again get creative. It also means looking on the Internet for new Easter craft ideas. But that’s fun, so I kind of look forward to it every year. I’m confident I can find all the perfect components in a very short time.
Normally I my creative process starts with looking for free vintage Easter clip art that will give me the main idea for the craft project. Since this is an Easter craft project, I plan to look for Easter bunny or baby chick images. Doing that should be a no-brainer, because Easter images are everywhere at this time of year.
I’ve also found in the past that free vintage Easter postcards that can be accessed all over the ’Net make fantastic bases for Easter craft projects. Because these digital cards already have fantastic Easter designs, it won’t take much to create a fun craft project.
Another marvelous idea for creating Easter crafts is to use scrapbooking supplies. Many embellishments, photo frames and borders exist that can help make your craft project exceptional. For instance, 3D stickers will literally take your craft project to another dimension. Also, printed scrapbook papers –whether digital or bought in a store — will add a spark of color to the finished product. Professionals also use these elements, so using them wisely will give you professional looking results.
So as you plan to make Easter crafts this year, remember how valuable the Web can be. Keep it simple and use images to do the heavy lifting. That will give you a visual advantage from the start and will make the creation process go easier and faster. Oohs and aahs from family and friends will probably be the result. And if crafts sales are what you’re after, you can be confident that your crafts will be attractive enough to sell.
Woodworking Doesn’t Have to be Complicated
For some people, woodworking might seem like an impossible task. Surely only the master craftsmen with years of experience can create anything worthwhile. Happily, this simply isn’t true. Everyone has to start somewhere, even the masters. At one point in time, they also started with simple woodworking projects.
If you’re serious about your new hobby, educate yourself before you begin. Learn as much as you can about the techniques and tools involved so that you’re well prepared before you start attempting your first project. It’s also a good idea to research different types of wood and what they are commonly used for.
These days, there’s a ton of information out there that you can easily access. Read magazines and books to get project ideas and instructions. Of course, the internet has a wealth of information that’s tailored to all skill levels.
Another good way to get a handle on woodworking is to sign up for some classes. This will provide you with a good opportunity to actually see how some of the basic techniques are performed. Plus, you’ll learn what you need to know about safety precautions, which is the most critical part of woodworking.
Never attempt even simple woodworking projects without being educated in woodworking safety. Of course there’s the risk of injury, but there’s also the chance it will turn you off your new pastime completely.
When you’re ready to begin working on something of your own, keep it as simple as possible. It’s astounding what can be crafted using only basic tools. Try some basic projects that require only hand tools. You can find lots of kits for sale that are targeted to total beginners, where you just have to assemble the pieces. All of the wood is pre-cut to the appropriate sizes. This will allow you to get comfortable with how various parts go together without having to worry about operating tools.
When it comes to woodworking equipment and tools, start with the basics and slowly add items as you need them. Start off with some basic hand tools, and grow your collection as your skills advance and as you can afford it. When you do buy tools, don’t skimp on the quality. If your tools don’t last and you have to replace them, you really haven’t saved any money in the long run.
Once you feel comfortable with simple projects, you can move on to some more advanced jobs. However, no matter how experienced you become at DIY woodworking, always remember to keep safety in mind.
Have An eBook Reader Read To You
For almost twenty years, the perfect portable ebook reading hardware has been 5 years away. We are now at the stage where we wait for a cheap enough, lower power enough paper-quality display with long battery life.
Once the ebooks become cheap and affordable, the medium by which we read will also be the medium by which can write and respond. Reading will move from being a solitary act to becoming a social nature one. This is already happening with the blogs and the online likes.
So, I have been assuming that the ebook reader will mimic the form factor of books: display a page, and maybe make a rustling sound as the page is turned slowly. But it is taking so long for ebooks to arrive for the market that they may skip book emulation entirely and become general purpose browsers/composers. In any case, they are better with blogs than for books.
In my opinion, format matters a whole bunch more than medium. In the physical world, format (e.g. hardcover, small-print soft-cover, and magazine, etc.) provides a bunch of cues on the type and depth of the content. Photos placed in the right spots attract our attention immediately. The formats also hints a huge deal about the approximate appropriateness. I personally do not see ebooks catching on until they really have a format to them. So perhaps that makes a bunch of different ebook reader niches rather than an e-book monolith. Who knows.
eBook can be ubiquitous only if the content price is reduced to a level that the mass market can afford it. RCA ebook readers have been around for years, but I still do not see people using them on the trains, buses and airplanes. On the other hand, almost everyone of my friend has got one. Why? And that is because we all read Russian. And Russian ebooks are dirt cheap in the first place (if not free).
So, yes, I do hope ebooks jump directly to supporting blog-like content, otherwise we might wait another twenty years before the perfect ebook hardware emerges and gain mass adoption.
