A Motivational Speaker Wonders: Is Your Brain Restricting Your Professional Growth?

As a motivational speaker and trainer, (during my inspirational speeches) I often ask: How often do you become conscious of the side of your own nose? And, if you wear glasses, how often do you notice the frames? I suspect that your reply to both these questions is: “rarely”.

This observation is actually surprising when you consider that both your nose and specs are within your field of view. (My motivational speaker and training audience members are by and large very taken aback.) Which begs the issue, because they encroach upon your field of view, how come your nose and glasses don’t become a visual distraction? Here’s the reason why: It’s because your brain filters them out.

In truth, only a minuscule part of the huge amount of information detected by your senses ever impinges on your consciousness. Attempting to assimilate all this sensory input would be totally impossible. Filtering out all the ‘unimportant’ data, including your nose and glasses, is a key brain function.

How come – as a motivational speaker - did I think it was most important to bring this unusual visual anomaly to your attention? Answer: Because it raises an crucial point. This scientific oddity got me wondering, does a limited perspective mean limited success? In truth a number of aspects of the brain filter unequivocally influence our productivity. Case in point, it directs our attention towards our expectations. In this commentary I’m going to consider a crucial feature of the brain sieve, how it tends towards the negative.

Your Negative Perspective

The brain filter tends to let through the depressing, in preference to the positive, features of a situation. If, in spite of everything, you still want persuading of your tendency to direct your attention on the negative, try the following simple experiment. (Incidentally I often suggest this experiment in my inspirational healthcare programs.)

Draw a line down the middle of a piece of paper. Now, for the rest of the day, when you “think positive” sketch a “Smiley Face” on one side of the line. But, each and every time you have a unhelpful notion, mark a cross on the other side. Try it and discover which half of the paper you cover first. When subjects conduct this exercise truthfully, they discover they’re considerably more pessimistic than they realized.

What we require is a wider outlook, the aptitude to catch sight of the constructive aspects of a circumstance in order to compensate for our inborn propensity to be drawn towards the negative. How come? It turns out that a positive attitude is prognostic of success in many areas from sales to sports.

A Motivational Speaker’s Answer…

On the next occasion a downbeat reflection pops into your skull, attempt these practical steps:

Tip 1: Call to mind your brain filter

Tip 2: Then, seek a wider, more neutral viewpoint.

Tip 3: Ask yourself straightforward questions. For example: How bad is this irritation really? Is it likely, I’ll even remember this aggravation in three years time?

Finally, being knowledgeable about your brain sieve will make you less reactive and more effective. Take control of your thinking and keep an eye on what happens. Take it from a motivational speaker, you’ll be shocked!

Realize Your Dreams

Overcome Your Fears

We all dream, and most of us dream about financial security for ourselves and for our families.

Past disappointments with other home businesses tend to make us hesitate when faced with new, better opportunities.  Many of us allow fear to keep us from realizing our dreams of great success with our home businesses.

Today, change is the norm. Consequently, staying current with the latest internet marketing strategies becomes difficult.  So how do we find the wisdom and the courage to take the next step on our journey to achieving our goals?

Attitude Is Important

Sir Winston Churchill once said, “Success is measured by your ability to maintain enthusiasm between failures.”

Every day my inbox is filled with advertisements for newer and better ways to perform internet marketing.  However, finding the legitimate ones and eliminating the scams?  Just like when buying a car, sometimes you just have to give it a test drive.

Success Personality

One Gallup organization in-depth study of the “success personality” explored the attitudes and traits of 1500 randomly selected individuals from Who’s Who in America. The three most significant traits they found were:

1) Common Sense – the ability to simplify a complex subject by getting to the core of what matters

2) Knowing One’s Field – first-hand knowledge as well as support from experienced coaches, and

3) Self-Reliance

Noted author, Brian Tracy, has stated, “All successful men and women are big dreamers. Winners visualize their possible future, ideal in every respect, and then they work their hearts out to realize that vision.”

Success Formula

If you want to achieve your dreams, apply the following success formula:

1) Determine your desired outcome(s)

2) Be proactive – meaning, do something!

3) Notice and feedback results

4) If the results are not what you want, change your strategy

For internet marketers, the ability to maintain enthusiasm between failures (or more likely, between massive sales) will, indeed, separate the successful ones from the unsuccessful ones.

And one of the best ways to maintain your enthusiasm is to associate yourself with successful people – teachers, mentors and other gurus who’ve “been there and done that” and are already successful.

One superb starting point for securing all the understanding about internet marketing that you will need is to join the Online Success for Beginners classes.

Don’t Procrastinate Your Life Away

Be Proactive

There are lots of dreamers in the world and dreams are a good thing, but if all you do is dream, you’ll never realize your goals.

Action is the precursor to success.

Becoming a success and achieving your dreams requires hard work – and action. Don’t let fear keep you from starting. You must take the responsibility to ensure your dreams come to pass.

Thomas Edison is remembered as a great inventor, but before he invented the things we remember, he invented a lot of things that failed. Abraham Lincoln was one of our most famous Presidents, but he suffered many failures in his life as well. Before Babe Ruth set the record for home runs, he struck out many times.

Likewise, we must set up to the plate and take our best swing if we hope to succeed.

I’m sure Babe Ruth got free “walks” many times – but that was because he was such a great hitter that the pitchers were afraid to let him bat. Most of us don’t get things dropped in our laps, we have to work for them.

Don’t Procrastinate!

How many people do you know who’s frequent answer is “I’ll do it later”, when all you ever see them actually do is sit around on the couch, or take long naps, or maybe, if they’re the active type – go off and play a round of golf.

Taking action to realize their goals?

Oh, no, “I’ll do it later”.

Don’t blow your chances at success by loafing around on the coach.

Your dreams are important to you, but the only way to realize them and realize success in life that you both want and deserve is to get up off the couch and take some action.

What action could you take right now to improve your chances of realizing your dreams?

Time Management & Goal Setting

Goal Setting Gear

While science is at its most advanced state in this day and age, there remains to be a lot of things to juggle for a typical job-oriented person. For most family-oriented men, there is the burden of juggling work, job, family and other factors involved in one’s social life.

You can read more on Time Management & Goal Setting

The answer is Time Management & Goal Setting. Many highly successful persons are often asked about their secret of success. And more often than not, they have the same response, and that is Productivity. However, although this is almost an expected response, many are still surprised at how Time Management really works.

Time Management is quite simply the proper allocation of time for certain priorities. First, the important tasks have to be arranged in a certain way where it is clustered into sectors and listed according to urgency and importance. For example, the important parts of your life are career, you parents, your home, your art, and your family. You have to know which one to drop first whenever you need to do something.

After that, you will need help from some Time Management & Goal Setting Gear designed to aid you in the right process of prioritization AND remembering that order.

Quick-and-Easy teasers

Goal Setting Tools & Time Management Techniques

There are a lot of women who need lots of reminder when it comes to taking care of medium sized businesses. Often, they are too small that they are disregarded as unimportant. If you are one of them, buy some quick-and-easy teasers. What’s good about technology is you can probably put an alarm just about everywhere! Mobile phones nowadays have built-in organzing device of your choices, post-its are available in different variants, and even the good old refrigerator door magnets have come in a lot of forms.

What is important is that the frequency of the reminding is now being increased. This is good for Time Management & Goal Setting because it keeps you aware of the things which you have to do especially if they’re urgent.

The organzing device of your choice + Watch Tandem

These are staples for just about every busybody from the college beadle to the corporate leader. The organizing device of your choice is something that holds your appointments and it’s also a tiny little space for some writing. Busybodies usually have contact numbers of random women they meet, gifts for a not-so-relevant birthday party that he has to go to or some sudden brilliant ideas that come to mind. For these and more, you will need an organziing device of your choice. It has to be a little notebook, just enough to fit in a handbag, and should be made of durable material. You must bring your organzing device of your choice with you every day, in case you need to list something down as a reminder.

And indeed, the perfect addition to an organzing device of your choice is a good working watch. Just because your watch didn’t work well You may have experienced running late for an appointment.  What’s worse is that the person you’re meeting wouldn’t even believe you. This blunder can easily be avoided. Just get a high quality watch. Having a good sense of time is practically the first step in Productivity.

The Perfect manner of thinking

It’s pressuring to know that you have a lot of things in your hand and it seems like you can’t even do anything about it. Don’t tip over.

Moreover, keep a be on your toes kind of mindset as you maneuver your way into your busy life. Sure, there are times when you distance yourself from your organizing device of your choice. It is a painful reminder of the busy life they lead for some. It’s perfectly alright to feel some form of eternal urgency but take some time off once in a while. You must never neglect yourself in your list of important tasks.

How to Write a Book and Make Money Right From The Start

Would you like to proactively start making money while you’re still writing a book?

It is estimated that only 5% of authors become a bestselling author.

What’s worse is that about one in a hundred authors actually earn a living from their book . In fact most authors find it very hard to earn back what sunk into their book.

How does that 1% do it? Even more important, can you become one of the few?

They’ve discovered the formula for how to write a book, get it on the bestseller lists and for make a lot of money from them.

And it isn’t just a lucky strike, because some are able to do it over and over again.

There are many success factors to writing a good book, but I would like to focus on the three most important factors to successfully writing a bestseller and making money from it.

If you figure out and implement these factors, you could add an additional 6 or 7-figures from each book you write in the future.

Key Factor 1 – Turn your book into a business so that you are creating highly desirable products to go with each book.

A book is more than just paper with words all over it. It transfers your knowledge for people to use and enjoy via a traditional format. You will achieve more success when you realize that you can transfer the exact same knowledge in other acceptable ways that sell just as effectively. When you’re thinking about your book, proactively plan other products and services so that your book fits into your business in an intentional way. Not only will have a very extra system of marketing, but also extra income streams, because everything sells the book and the book sells everything.

Key Factor 2 – As your write the book, add in all of the essential ingredients and most of the desirable ones, and you’ll find your book is quite simple to promote, market, and sell.

There are several ingredients that are absolutely necessary to creating a bestseller, and some must be included from the beginning. There are also some very enticing features which help to expand the marketability and value of your book. For example, you must have a bar code and an ISBN number, plus certain bindings and features so that bookstores can sell your book for you. There are also about 10 features that make your book much easier to sell and are therefore very desirable. Having captivating stories that make a point, relevant quotes, testimonials, resources listings, and an index are some of the top features of every New York Times Bestseller.

Key Factor 3 – Be proactive and begin pre-selling your book while writing your book and guide pre-sales to as much possible so that you’ll know where your books are going to be purchased and when.

You need to learn what it takes to make your book a bestseller. For example, not all sales of books count toward bestselling status and it’s crucial to know which ones do. Keep the focus to only those that matter and compress the sales during an appropriate time period and if you have learned what you need to and attracted the right sale quantities you’ll have a guaranteed winner.

ACTION POINT: If you want to knowhow to write a book that makes money and becomes a bestseller, then you must use the secret formula that the top 1% use to hit that goal. Choose to use the Key Factors outlined above and keep your eye on the ball, and you’ll hit a home run every time.

Turning Limiting Circumstances In To Successes

The self-imposed barriers that we carry around with us are generally our biggest barriers to success. The word “can’t'” almost certainly equals failure. In fact you might aswell not even begin to start typing, I’ll bet you won’t even start anyway. In order to achieve success you are going to have to remove the word “can’t” from your vocabulary, life will get easier from that point on.

We often manage to persuade ourselves that our circumstances are a reason not to achieve success and that we can simply hide behind them as a good reason not to be, do and have everything that we desire. Whereas it should be the other way around. Looking at our circumstances is the most undesputable evidence that we created our current situations good or bad and that we can change them for the future also! That is the secret. Learn to use the power of positive thinking and optimism as Winston Churchill describes:

“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”

If you are in what you consider a not so positive situation, take a look at how you got there. What thoughts were flying through your mind a couple of months back that allowed you to get into this situation, did you have any real goals, were you spending time around positive people? The probablity is that you haven’t been doing any of those things as they are the things that let you control the things that flow into your life and receive them the way you wish to.

So, when you look at your current circumstance realize that you have been responsible in the largest part for creating them and use this realization as motivation for you to create the circumstances that you desire.

Now, instead of saying: “I can’t because… or I will not be succcessful because…” say “I will succeed because…” and write down all of the resources that you have on your side, regardless of how large or small, like: previous experience, time, aid from others, ideas, motivations, good personal qualities, friends, acquaintances, future plans, savings, reasons to be succesful etcetera. Performing this one easy task will help you break through your negative view of you current situation and turn them straightaway into a positive asset.

Have you ever noticed how once you make a decision to do something AND start to take action on it, no matter how ridiculous or ambitious or difficult it may have seemed a path seemingly opens up for you to walk down whereby out of nowhere you begin to gain the things that you need in order to succeed. As soon as you start to ignore your current situation and make a firm decision and make positive action then good things will start to happen, a way can always be found. Vince Lombardi, 1913-1970, Hall of Fame American Football Coach agrees:

“We would accomplish many more things if we did not think of them as impossible.”

More often than not successful people will not know how they are going to get somewhere or achieve a certain goal, all they will know however is that they will achieve it. This mindset can be developed by any person and it is the mindset for success.

“Effort only fully releases its reward after a person refuses to quit.” – Napoleon Hill, 1883-1970, American Speaker/Motivational Writer/Author of “Think and Grow Rich”

Just to summaries then, you create your circumstance and should therefore not see it as a limiting factor, make a decision, act on it and then persevere and persevere some more until you have reached your goal. Then repeat the procedure for your new goal, this type of positive thinking is beyond the secret and can and will work wonders for you. Bear in mind there are also many personal development products that you may wish to look to for help too.

How I learned a new language in three short months using audio books

Of course, I was taught French during my school days but never took it seriously. In my honest opinion, something like that just wasn't of any importance to me, and probably never would be.

After all, English was more popular and I could get along anywhere in the world with my knowledge of English language, right?

Oh my, how wrong could I have been.

I realized my mistake when I was sent to France for an assignment. Talk about a fish out of water! I was completely out of my comfort zone.

Literally everywhere I went, restaurants, bars, shops, galleries, offices, transport - everyone was speaking French. Locating someone who could speak English was like locating someone in England who could speak Chinese.

Whew, I really felt lost.

Even after the experience I had in France, I still wasn't really interested in learning the language, as I probably wouldn't ever be going back to France.

But on getting back home, my boss told me I would be going back in 3 months. Not only that, but this time I would be staying for much longer than the last time.

I protested, but she didn't bulge.

There and then I made a commitment to myself to learn French before the 3 months was up.

Being a lover of audio books, I went right ahead and bought some “Teach yourself French” foreign language audio books which I played while preparing for work in the morning, while exercising, during my commute to and from work and any other time when my hands were busy but my mind was free.

At first I didn't pay too much attention to what was being said in the "Teach yourself French" audio books because it was a strange language.

But as time went on, it all started to make sense. What was really beneficial, and what really helped me to grasp the language in the end, was the translations to English for any of the words spoken in French.

It definitely confirmed the theory I had read some time ago about how powerful listening can really be. It is no wonder that the good lord gave us two ears and one mouth. You can learn virtually any language from just listening - it really is that powerful.

You wouldn't believe it but gradually I picked up and was able to speak some amount of French just 6 weeks after.

You can imagine the surprise on the face of my boss when, 10 weeks later, I spoke French to her without mixing it with a single word in English!

She couldn't believe it and asked me how I was able to do it. So I told her my secret - it was audio books!

Not only was she very impressed, she made me the head of the delegation she was sending to represent our company in France.

She made sure every other member of my team got their foreign language audio books and did exactly what I had done.

When I eventually got back to France 3 months later, I was no longer "a fish out of water".

It was fantastic, and I was amazed that I had been able to do this without hiring a tutor, going to college or night school, or even reading any French tutorial books.

All of this was possible within 3 months just listening to French audio book lessons.

And do you know what was the most intriguing thing about all of this? I did this all in my "free" time. There were no extra committments of time needed from me, I just used the same time that I had wasted in the past.

Now, if I could do this within just three months, I am absolutely certain that anyone else can do it too.

I can honestly say that if there is any foreign language that you are itching to learn, do exactly as I did and you'll be amazed by the results in just three months, simply from the power of audio books.

There are several audio book versions of many books on learning foreign languages that you can get on the Internet.
